Hair Perming

A hair perming is a technique of waving the hair by changing the inner design of the keratin. So as to have a wave that lasts for a long time or remains everlasting, it’s important to change the inner design of the keratin inside hair. As the inner design of the hair is changed, the hair turns flexible, stretchy and can be shaped in any preferred form. Then reversing the  hair perming and applying specific chemical substances reform the bridges in other areas therefore mending the new form given to the hair.

The hair perming method in which the bridges are severed differs based on the type of perm. Perms are of several types: Hot perms, Cold perms, Tepid perms and Home perms. Among these, hot perms and cold perms are popular.

Hot Hair Perms

This is a good old type of perm, that has been used before 1950s. With this technique, the hair is moistened using a liquid (sulphurites with ammonia) that does not affect the hair once used cold. The hair after that wound on curls or pin curls, after which covered using a cap, and lastly warmed to a temperature around two hundred degrees. With the action of heat, the chemical substances severe the bridges and the hair then make wound structure. The hair is then dried out and cooled down, so the new bridges are produced in other areas. The entire operation is performed at room temperature.  Because high temperature is used this method is called hot hair perming.

Cold perms or permanent waving

This method of hair perming was initially unveiled in United States in 1935. The E

gyptians and Romans practised a a bit crude method of long term waving in 1900. This created a technique for using heat to preform curls via some heating units connected by wires to the device. Cold waving has several benefits:

- Cold hair perm is comparatively cheap as no costly devices are needed

- Cold hair perm is a recognized technique for permanently waving almost all kinds of hair

But, there are a few exceptions as many women might be sensitive to the waving lotion.

- The modern long term waving is carried out exclusively by the cold waving technique. This is a recognized technique for permanently waving different types of hair by the act of a chemical substance called thioglycolate, used free of heat.

In the process of cold perms, the hair is moistened using a ammonium thioglycolate and wound on to curlers, and allowed till the hair has brought required form. Now the process is corrected to create new bridges. Moistening the hair using a neutralizer, to neutralize the action of the thioglycolate. The neutralizers generally contain liquids like hydrogen peroxide or solids like perborates or persulphates, combined with acids. Both the solutions applied alternatively work in reverse ways, in order to balance their action it is vital that their strength and also the processing period for both just be identical.

Observe these precautions when perms hair:

1. Refrain from using neutral cold perms, which hair stylists generally use nowadays. These are the heated cold perm and the cooled off hot perm. These are known as Tepid perms.

2. lt is recommended not have a perm during the time of menstruation. Cold perms need quite strong alkaline solutions of thioglycolate. It is often proved that following a hot perm, the hair level of resistance is lowered by sixty percent and a cold perm decreases it by only fifteen %.

3. Hot perms cause the hair quite fragile and if carried out too often, may even lead to the hair breaking at the scalp. Perms used these days could lead to wear and tear of the hair; usually have an annoying action on scalp and risking potential skin intolerance (dermatitis).

4. Perms make the hair very delicate and dry, particularly with hair that was recently bleached or damaged by hair shampoo or too much brushing. Don’t perm the hair, when it is not in good condition or this has been recently bleached.

5. Don’t wind hair very tightly on the curlers or expose it for to the thioglycolate solution, poor rinsing of hair after applying solution and too strong a solution.

6. The thioglycolate left on the hair for a long time could destroy the keratin and make the hair break.

After all hair perming is rightly done it will enhance your beauty with no doubt.
